Question one - Evaluation DRAFT

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Firstly our music video is influenced by other pop artists videos. Such as Titch, Gabrielle Aplin, Nina Nesbitt, Taylor Swift and Eliza Doolittle.  We copied some ideas from each of these videos and then incorporated them into our own music video.

In our first chorus of the song we copied a section of the music video ‘dumb’ by Titch. In each frame she is wearing a different top and has a different hairstyle.

These shots are quick cuts as it lasts around a second of each shot. The placing of her is in the same position and her outfit and hairstyle change. We decided to copy this and use it in our video because it is something quick and interesting. This also uses the pop conventions of a music video because they are quick cuts therefore creates energy within the music video. In our video we made our model where three different top and have three different hairstyles. We used as many shots as titch did in her video and made our video have the same number of cuts in a chorus so we knew we had created a chorus with a high level of energy.

Another thing we copied was the memory box idea from Gabrielle Aplin video 'Panic cord'. There is a shot from which she pulls a memory box out from under her bed. We have copied this as our artist pulls out a memory box from under the bed and starts rummaging through it picking out memory's from it throughout the song. This is again a typical girly item to own and then shows more conventions of a pop video which will be aimed at the female teenage audience. Another shot we have copied from this video is a moving shot of Gabrielle flopping onto the bed. We have used this in ours because one of our two locations is based in bedroom so it would make sense to use these types of shots on the bed. Another reason is because she is moving in the shot it creates energy within its self as she is always moving and therefore makes it look more like a pop music video because the artists are always moving or dancing.

The style that we dressed our model in for the video was influenced by pop artists Eliza Doolittle and Nina Nesbitt. The bright colours that we dressed our model in were red, floral, pink and blue. These were influenced by Eliza Doolittle's style as in her video 'Big when I was little' she wears very bright colourful clothes and it makes her stand out in the video. We also copied the type of clothing that Nina Nesbitt wears which are baggy jumpers/top. We dressed are model in these types of clothes to give a relaxed and girly look to her.

In the digipak I used a four panel layout. In the back two panels I used a panorama scenery picture of the beach. This was because other pop artists albums use panoramas in the back two panels. for example one direction, Rihanna and Gabrielle Aplin. The setting for the original video of Nina Nesbitt - Way in the World is a beach/harbour. So I decided to place this panorama as the background for the digipak because the picture creates a calm and youthful setting which backs up the folk/pop style she has.

The style of the of the poster I did contained 5 star ratings from 5 different fashion magazines/music magazines. I did this because in the genre of pop it is not all about the music it is about the fashion sense of the artist and their personal life. By having fashion magazines rate the album it made more sense because the fans of that artist would most likely read the magazines that rated the album. This will then promote the album as they would trust their favourite magazines opinion on the album and then will buy it.
